Getting the Most out of Prayer of Mending

Prayer of Mending is unique in the way it operates. It is completely unlike any other spell that is available to any other classes. Not only can this spell be used as a “Where the hell did the tank run off to” leash, it also adds an incredible heal to your healing arsenal. Places a spell on the target that heals them for 1043 the next time they take damage.  When the heal occurs, Prayer of Mending jumps to a party or raid member within 20 yards.  Jumps up to 5 times and lasts 30 sec after each jump.  This spell can only be placed on one target at a time. How can we get the most out of this spell?

Ding! I’m 80, Now What?

There’s no denying that both leveling and gear acquisition has become drastically easier over the years. It’s become the norm for most players to have one or many alts – hell, I’ve got 6 80s myself (4 of them healers *flex*) . With BoA gear and the RaF program, I have friends that swore they would never play an alt, much less a healer, coming up to us the second they hit 80 on their priest and asking what they should do now. Really, the answer to that question can be simple or complicated, but who likes simple? NOT ME!!! So I’ll try to lay out the basics, and try to provide some guidelines based on what I’ve learned over the years.

3.2 PTR Part 1 – Prayer of Healing Changes

The PTR notes have been posted, and I am sure they will change at least once, twice, several times. So let’s approach these changes with the perspective that, in all likelihood, we’ll be seeing several changes in these notes before they actually go live. With the flurry of posts, forum topics, and guild chat discussions about 3.2 I figured it was about time I put my 2 copper in on this topic. I’ll be doing analysis over the next few days putting attention on each of the major changes. Today I want to focus on the changes made to Prayer of Healing. Prayer of Healing: The percentage of spell power this spell gains in healing (per target) has been reduced from 80.7% to 52.6%. The Prayer of Healing change screams …

3.1 Priest Specs – Redux

3.1 has been out for a while and now that we’ve all had a good feel for our specs its time to re-evaluate what we’ve been using. In my previous post, I alluded to two different healing specs: One Holy and One Disc. I’ve found my Disc spec to be exactly what I expected it to be, and its what I use now as Disc, however my Holy spec in that post has notably changed. I have been raiding mainly as Holy lately, and have tweaked my Holy build considerably since 3.1 launch. Derevka’s Holy Spec 2.0 – 14/57/0This spec has a lot of the standards that you would normally see in a PVE raiding spec (Spirit of Redemption, Spiritual Healing, Empowered Renew), but you probably noticed right off the …

3.1 Priest Specs – What are You Doing?

Well, it seems that 3.1 is imminent. Coupling the fact that the PTR realms are slowing down, the patches on the PTR are getting smaller and smaller (the last patch was teeny) with the fact that the downloader seems to be finished, we may will have it as early as next week (4/14). However with the move of Noblegarden, it does confuse me. My bet is 4/21. All classes will have their Talent Points refunded, which means its time to respect. And for most of us: Dual Specs. While some of us will be going Healing/Shadow as our specs, I do think a good many priests will be going Holy/Disc, giving them the ability to swap specs mid raid to adapt to whatever healing assignment they are given. Derevka’s 3.1 …

Hymn of Hope- practical uses?

When all priests were given Hymn of Hope, all the Draenei of the world died a little on the inside. The 8 second cast for 8% of base mana is, yes, lackluster. However there are uses in fights when this can be used, safely. Yes, there are the situations when your party members need mana (or you do) and using it is tempting. If that is the case, communicate with the other healers… however think before you assume doing it is ok. If you are low on mana, it usually means the other healers are too… are they able to pick up your slack for the next 8 seconds? Or consider using your Guardian Spirit as well. Lets discuss fights/phases that you can typically safely use Divine Hymn: 1. Malygos …

More on Circle of Healing, Cooldowns, and Regen

An in-game friend of mine commented on my last post, and had a lot to say. I’ve got his permission to post this and make some commentary. /love Bhoz It brings some quality insight to COH that I might have missed mentioning in my previous post. “1) I’m already much more involved in my healing than pre-WotLK (well, pre-3.0 patch). If a CoH proccs Surge of Light or Holy Concentration, I’m automatically looking for someone to get the free heal. Or I’m hitting Inner Focus if it’s up (for some extra OOFSR mana regen), then looking for a target for the free heal. I’m actually tracking my PoMs a lot tighter now, to make sure I’m getting the T7 bonus extra jump. I’m trying to find 8 seconds of down …

Synergies: Priest and otherwise

First, apologies for going near 2 weeks without a post! With the Thanksgiving Holiday immediately followed by being on a cruise for 8 days, I’ve been swamped! Tales is back! Priest Spec SynergiesSpeccing your priest to have fun should be your main focus for the most part – after all this is a game! However, speccing to have synergies with the other priests in your raid group is key. The key thing that a lot of Pre-Wrath Holy Priests are doing is forgetting about the Discipline Priests, both in raid activity and spec. If you are in a raid with a Discipline priest there are many things Holy priests need to keep in mind. Discipline and Holy Synergies Power Word: ShieldHoly Priests really shouldn’t be casting this very much, if …

Tree Recap – Part II: Holy & New Baseline Spells

Part II in my 2-Part series on recapping the Talent Trees, prior to Wrath. Holy OverviewThe main “healing tree”. Priests are unique when compared to Druids, Shaman, and Paladins – we have 2 healing trees, while the other classes, could really just dump all their points into one tree and “boom!”, healing spec’d! Priests nearly always have to take a mix of Discipline and Holy. For you’ll see most Holy priests going into Disc for Meditation and Inner Focus (to chain for 5 Sec Rule, breaking) for mana regen. Then dumping the rest into the Holy tree for the benefits therein. Holy is different than Discipline where it focuses on pure healing, not damage mitigation. TalentsHoly Specialization – Nothing new here, however both Disc and Holy priests alike should be …

Tree Recap – Part I: Discipline

Wrath is almost here, so perhaps its time to pause, breathe, and perhaps QQ a little less? Its coming at us like a train, its time we prepare. (Insert obligatory Illidan “You are not prepared!” pun here). DwarfPriest.com did a fantastic write up on gear/stats, which I will touch on in this series, but she did a great job so here’s a link to it. What I plan on doing is looking at both the new talents, or the completely changed ones in the Holy and Discipline trees from a healing perspective – thus, you know, the purpose of this blog. Discipline Overview Formerly the red-headed stepchild of the 3 trees; a footnote tree at best with a few talents that couldn’t be missed, but mainly the PVP tree. Blizzard …
