The latest beta build hit last night and added a number of changes to the Priest trees as well as the polish we’ve been looking for on our spell animations! We’re getting closer and closer to a finished product I think. Early November could very well be the Cataclysm date— and Boubouile at MMO-Champion might be spot on with his prediction. (Personally, that works for me since the end of November I am on vacation!)
That being said, there are a number of bugs in the latest build that will need to be addressed. Atonement, for example, specced 3/3 is not converting 120% of your smite to healing… it converts only 12%. Clearly something that needs to be fixed to allow for priests to give Disc a fair shake as Archangel and by proxy Atonement is going to play a major role in Disc’s rotation.
I did run Grim Batol as Discipline (Archangel/Atonement Spec) and did feel that with Atonement being buffed Archangel would be a major cornerstone in the Disc world. (if anything just for the mana restoration– which is NOTHING to scoff at). Both Holy and Disc have a different ‘feel’ than they did in the past and both are very viable. Holy you need to track your Chakra buffs and cooldowns, while Disc is going to be all about leveraging Archangel and Atonement. Which side of the argument will I fall… I’m not 100% sure– I like both specs in the dungeons I’ve run, but I will hold off judgement until I see Atonement fixed.
Also the combat log has some great absorption improvements!
For now I leave you all with the new animations that have been introduced this patch and the previous patch.
All of the information in this post is based off of Beta Build 12984 and, of course, is subject to change.
